Officers of Friends President: Carl Vitevitch Vice President: Carl Spinola Treasurer: Angela Casano Secretary: Terri Haar Welcome... The Friends of the Elwood Public Library is a volunteer organization, which was created to support, publicize and stimulate the use of the ELWOOD PUBLIC LIBRARY and to raise funds for services that are not covered by the Library budget. Use of Donations... Over the past few years, the Friends of the Elwood Public Library have been able to: · purchase a bike rack · place a Founders plaque by the circulation desk · provide for the annual staff appreciation lunch · purchase endcap panels to finish off the library book stacks · and just recently, purchased family passes to the Cradle of Aviation, Long Island Children's Museum and the Vanderbilt Museum.
Book Sales... The Friends run a biannual used book sale to signify ending and beginning of Sunday hours (May and September/October). Your assistance at this event is always welcomed. Book Dedication Opportunity... The Friends of the Elwood Library is having an ongoing Book Dedication Fundraiser. The money received will go to purchase books for the library. The books can be dedicated "In Honor of", "In Memory of", or "In Celebration of,” such an occasion as a wedding, bar mitzvah, communion, anniversary or birthday. Each book will contain a "Bookplate" which will indicate the name of the person who is dedicating the book and the name of the person being honored or remembered or the occasion. An identical plate will be sent to the honoree and the donor with a letter of acknowledgment. If you would like to dedicate a book, please pick up the form from the Library or click here to download and print the PDF file. (Adobe Reader required).Volunteer Opportunities... The Library has began cooperating with Literacy Suffolk, Inc. which prepares volunteers to help adult students to improve their ability to understand, speak, read and write basic English.
